Techniques On How To Meditate Deeply

Thursday, June 17th, 2010

Meditation used to be a Middle Eastern discipline routine. Not anymore. Lately, its popularity has spread worldwide and many more individuals are realizing the benefits it provides. This article will provide you with better techniques on how to meditate deeply, and enhance your overall experience.

When you first begin to meditate, it is important that the space you choose is acceptable. It can be located anywhere you choose as long as you will not be interrupted. It is best that you practice in the same spot every day. This will allow for a shorter reflection period in the long run. Just because it is brief, does not mean it isn’t effective. You will be able to reach a higher level of meditation depth as time progresses.

If you are sleep deprived, mad, or under mental pressure, your meditation experience will not be as effective. A focused, positive mind frame is needed in order to achieve your reflection period. If you by chance are suffering from any of the emotions mentioned, try doing a calm activity such as a small walk or a lap in the pool. By doing this, you will obtain energy that is needed for concentration.

Set time aside each day to meditate. Although it may be difficult at first to form a routine, in the end, it will pay off. A lot of people find that by meditating in the morning, they have an overall positive experience. By reflecting upon awakening, you have not had to endure any of life’s physical or mental demands.

In order to get the most out of your experience, certain items may help. Not only will they enhance your frame of mind, but your overall mood as well. Water fountains are a great addition to any space. The sound of flowing water soothes your mind and puts you inside a calm state. Incense not only smells pleasing, but certain varieties have different mood relaxing scents. Try to replace any harsh lighting with candles. These natural lighting sources will provide you with a serene atmosphere and are more appealing to the eye. Different colors are used for different meditation purposes. For example, if you are meditating on spirituality or intuition, indigo or purple candles should be used.

When you practice deep breathing, your desired level of deepness is able to be obtained. To do this, begin by sitting upright inside your meditation area. Close your eyes and take a deep breath. Starting at one hundred, slowly count backwards and envision a soft, blue ball hovering over your head. While continuing to count, focus on this ball touching each part of your body while moving downwards. With each caress, envision it relaxing the body part. Upon finishing, the ball should have landed at the very bottom of your feet. By doing this, you have achieved a greater level of meditation and are ready to reflect.

It is important that before you begin meditation, you are fully unwound and tranquil. By being in this state of mind, you will allow yourself to fully enjoy your experience. By understanding how to meditate deeply, you will have begun a new, positive beginning.

Reducing Stress With Relaxation Meditation

Sunday, June 13th, 2010

Stress is a part of everyone’s life. Regardless of how much we’d like to avoid it, we realize that it’s not always feasible. People who don’t learn to mitigate stress can suffer from many undesirable side-effects. Stress can cause sickness, problems with sleeping, mental health conditions, and a generally negative perspective of life. Mankind have come up with many methods of trying to alleviate stress. One of these methods, which appears promising, is relaxation meditation.

The power of meditation has been known for millennia. It’s been incorporated into some Eastern religions as a way to enhance one’s understanding of reality, and to cultivate wisdom and compassion. Meditation, the Eastern practitioners say, can unlock the full capabilities of a person’s conscious and unconscious mind.

In spite of this, serious scientific study of meditation’s benefits only started about 30 years ago. Reports from India told of their yogis’ unimaginable feats of both bodily control and altered states of consciousness. It took the relatively recent advancement of scientific instrumentation to verify their claims.

Other claimed benefits of meditation include a sense of heightened creativity, heightened problem solving skills, more restful sleep, and reduced levels of stress. And, of course, with reduced stress comes a better outlook on life and better health.

Nowadays, even in Western civilization, it’s not difficult to find write-ups about the benefits of meditating. You’ll find them on the Internet and in hard-copy magazines. (That’s especially so with the pop-psychology magazines.) Regardless of where you look, you’ll see anecdotes about how a person was able to benefit from meditation, and the best ways to do it.

The general procedure, on which most websites and magazine articles seem to agree, is to find a quiet spot where you can sit comfortably. With your eyes not focused on any particular object, clear your mind and concentrate on one particular word or phrase. Most sources say to do this for about ten to fifteen minutes at a time.

You’ll also find websites where vendors sell courses for learning these techniques. Other vendors sell aids to help with the process. Mostly, these aids are in the form of an audio CD with some type of relaxing sounds. It may be either sounds of nature, or New Age music.

If not for their products, vendors say, you’d have to practice meditation for hours every day, for years, or perhaps even decades, before you’d achieve optimum results. Their products, they claim, can make the process go much faster.

There are lots of wonderful benefits in playing meditation music, including decreasing your anxiety and stress levels while you are listening and even after you have finished!

You will always want to use the same area in your home for the process. Make sure that the area has been cleaned well, and does not have any clutter or trash close by. These things can be extremely distracting and can take away from the experience. Always try to use the same space. It won’t take long and you will instantly begin to feel relaxed when you enter the area.

Be sure to put on nice comfortable clothing before you begin the process. You will want to be able to stretch yourself out completely without any restrictions when you meditate.

One of the most important things about meditation is the use of meditation music! You can decide if you would like to purchase the music, rent it for free from your local library, or you can even download it for free from your home computer. If you have the internet on your desktop or laptop computer, you will find that there are many websites that offer free meditation music that you can use.

During meditation, you will want to breathe slowly and deeply. Inhale completely and hold the air before releasing. There are a lot of techniques that you can use to breath during meditation.

Look around and find one spot in the room where you can completely concentrate your focus. You may even want to try repeating a mantra to yourself. “Om” is very commonly used and can help you to stay focused and block out any type of interruptions.

The final step in completing the process is to visualize. Try to pretend that you are somewhere else in the world. Somewhere that makes you extremely comfortable and at peace. Be sure to imagine every detail that you can. Think of the smells, the sights, the sounds, the tastes, and the way things would feel there.

Repeat the process of practicing your meditation techniques often. The more that you do the act, the more natural it will become. It is very important that you try to set aside a bit of time to practice each and every day. You will find yourself reaching a deeper state of relaxation in no time!
