Many Homes Are Facing Huge Concerns Over Oil Delays
With many parts of the United Kingdom being left frozen and almost impossible to reach due to freezing weather conditions over the Christmas period, many homes were left with little or not heating oil supplies. Thousands of customers were left unreachable because of the extremely hazardous road conditions and oil suppliers were completely unprepared for the way the weather hit many parts of the country.
Many pensioners find winter times really tough because of the rising costs of fuel. But there could be deadly consequences if they were to be left for any length of time with no oil. But even those customers who had ordered their oil before the cold weather set in were forced to wait for over a month for their oil.
Mrs Clare Stott, 87, from Woodstock was one of those pensioners left without oil. Mrs. Stott ordered her oil before the snow fell but was left waiting as the delivery trucks could not reach her. This could have been disastrous if it weren’t for the help of her neighbour, Chris Pomfrett. Mr. Pomfrett provided Mrs. Stott with 25 litres of oil which would tide her over until her oil could be delivered. But unfortunately Mrs. Stott is not an exception but is one of many customers affected by the freezing weather. The weather has made it nearly impossible for deliveries to get to customers.
Mr. Pomfrett, an energy consultant runs his oil buying business from which he then sells on the oil to customers at discounted prices. His not-for-profit business helps hundreds of customer’s access cheaper oil. He has said that he feels that some more vulnerable oil customers were not helped by their oil companies. It was his opinion that these companies could have gotten small supplies to their most needy customers with the use of 4×4 trucks.
There are other needy customers as well as pensioners who have been left in misery due to oil delays. There are hundreds of customers who are ill or with tiny babies who can not afford to be without their source of heat at this time. But oil companies have said they are doing all they can to prioritise customers in most need.
Heating ones home in the cold months of winter can cost a fair packet. Electricity and gas prices are very high and show no signs of coming down any time soon. Clever people are switching to heating oil as a fuel though. After the changeover they have to make sure that the storage tanks are always full of heating oil ensuring they can always heat their home in winter.
